How Creators Are Earning Big on LinkedIn

We had a great turnout at today’s MONEY MONDAY$ event with LinkedIn Creator Brandon Smithwrick! A big thank you to the 386 RSVPs who joined us for the kickoff event.

👪 Build Your Community First:

Brandon emphasizes that the key to success on LinkedIn is building a strong, loyal community before thinking about monetization. Posting consistent, valuable content allows you to connect with your audience and establish yourself as a credible voice. Once you’ve built trust, brands will naturally be drawn to you for partnerships.

  • Consistency is Key: Regular posting (ideally 3-5x p/week), whether about personal development, social media tips, or entrepreneurship, helps build that connection.

  • Long-Term Benefit: The monetization comes as a byproduct, not the initial goal. For example, Brandon started creating content about two years ago, sharing his marketing insights. He never stopped, and it eventually led to partnerships.

🎯 Target the Right Brands:

Instead of pitching yourself to random brands, it’s smarter to focus on those already active on LinkedIn. Brandon suggests identifying brands that align with your content and audience, and starting by organically talking about (and tagging) them in your posts. A great tool to see which Creators are running sponsorships is this free chrome extension here.

  • Start Small: When Brandon got his first brand deal, he charged $350 for a post, but learned over time how to adjust his rates.

  • Scale Your Efforts: Once you’ve worked with one brand, leverage that success to pitch to other brands. Show them your past performance and highlight how their competitors have already benefited from similar partnerships.

📈 Be Strategic About Pricing and Analytics:

Pricing your content accurately is essential. Brandon shared his experience with different pricing based on content type. Video content, which takes more time and effort, should be priced higher than text-only posts. It's also crucial to show your engagement metrics when pitching to brands.

  • Price Points: On average, Brandon currently charges $1,200 to $1,500 for a text or image post, and $2,000 to $3,000 for a video post due to the additional work required (scripting, shooting, and editing).

  • Maximizing Earnings: He’s had months when he earned as low as $3,000, and months when he earned as much as $18,000. In 2024, he is on track to make $68,000.

  • Analytics Matter: Brands are interested in data like impressions, comments, and shares. Brandon mentioned that showcasing consistent results is better than relying on viral posts (under-promise and over-deliver). Brands need to know what to expect from your typical performance.
